Synopsis
Rex arrives in a Nevada cowboy bar immaculate and terrifyingly polite, works his way down the length of the counter, and levels the entire room when nobody can tell him where to find a man named Charlie. It's the first stop on a one-man rampage through desert diners, gas stations, and dive bars, each one ending the same way: a question, a beat of silence, and a room full of casualties. A day behind him and running the same trail is Crusher, a battle-worn drifter driving a stolen '69 Mustang who wants the same answer and is no gentler about getting it. When he pulls three hillbillies off a runaway teenage girl on a stretch of empty highway, he expects her to disappear the second he lets her out of the car. Instead Chloe hitches herself to him anyway — mouthy, unbothered by the bodies he leaves behind, and far more interested in the name on his fake ID than he'd like. As both hunts push west out of the desert toward Los Angeles, the trail of wrecked bars and broken men starts pointing at the same conclusion from two different directions. Everyone Rex and Crusher have terrorized gave the same honest answer — nobody's seen him — and by the time either man is close enough to understand why, "Charlie" isn't turning out to be anything like what either of them assumed.
